Vincent van der Voort: The Dutch Dart Pioneer

From The Fastest Player to The Dutch Destroyer

Vincent van der Voort, born on December 18, 1975 in Purmerend, is a renowned Dutch darts player. Formerly known as "The Fastest Player in the World," he now goes by the nickname "The Dutch Destroyer." In addition to his darting career, he is also a regular analyst on the Viaplay program.

Emergence at PDC in 2007-2008

In January 2007, Van der Voort, along with Jelle Klaasen and Michael van Gerwen, made the transition to the PDC. His debut on a PDC televised tournament was impressive, reaching the final of the UK Open 2007, where he unfortunately lost to Raymond van Barneveld. This achievement, however, helped him break into the top 50 of the Order of Merit. In his first year at the PDC, Van der Voort qualified for the World Championship and won a thrilling first-round match against fellow Dutchman Jelle Klaasen. His debut PDC World Championship saw him advance to the second round before being defeated by Adrian Lewis. In 2008, he reached the semi-finals of the UK Open and the quarter-finals of the PDC World Championship.

Successes and Victories 2009-2011

Throughout 2009 and 2011, Van der Voort achieved various successes, including a 9-darter during a floor tournament in Nuland. He secured his first PDC victory in Germany and later another in the Netherlands. At the 2011 PDC World Championship, he defeated Simon Whitlock to claim his biggest victory in a televised tournament. Van der Voort also won several tournaments on the PDC circuit during this period.

Challenges and Return to Form 2012-2015

In 2012, Van der Voort represented the Netherlands in the World Cup of Darts. Although he faced challenges throughout the year, he performed commendably at the World Championship. 2013 brought its share of difficulties, including a back injury, but he persevered in the competition. He made a comeback in 2014 with a victory at the Austrian Darts Open and a semi-final appearance at the Players Championship Finals. At the 2015 World Championship, he reached the quarter-finals before losing to Phil Taylor.

Rise in 2016

Following his 15th place finish on the Order of Merit, Van der Voort qualified for The Masters. In the first round, he defeated world champion Gary Anderson. Vincent van der Voort's career continues to evolve, marked by numerous highs and lows that solidify his status as a Dutch dart pioneer.
